About
ABOUT: Ann Beck Pilates in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond District provides private Pilates training for injury recovery, athletic performance, fitness and active aging in a peaceful, private setting. A Pilates rehabilitation specialist for the past 19 years, I’ve taught over 20,000 hours of private Pilates sessions. I have helped clients rehabilitate, regain their strength, develop fitness, find pain relief, and improve their quality of life. I’ve helped athletes and dancers improve their performance and prevent injury, and am currently part of the training team for Olympic and World Bronze Medalist Shannon Rowbury, a former Nike sponsored athlete, three time Olympian, and one of the greatest middle distance runners in U.S. history. A dancer for most of my life, I sustained many injuries, including a serious spinal disc injury in 2009. My personal journey of recovery has been an invaluable experience which helps me better understand the challenges that clients face.
MY JOURNEY TO PILATES: Before becoming a Pilates instructor, I worked as a theatrical costume designer. My clients included San Francisco Ballet, major ballet companies across the U.S., and many professional figure skaters, including Olympic Champions Brian Boitano, Kristi Yamaguchi and Dorothy Hamill. I loved my work, but felt I needed to make a change. I began taking Pilates classes hoping to heal my body and restore balance to my life. Pilates helped me so much that I decided to change careers and become a Pilates instructor. I have since worked with many exceptional clients who daily inspire me with their dedication and positive outlook on life.
PILATES CERTIFICATION | TRAINING | PHILOSOPHY: I completed my comprehensive Pilates certification at the Ellie Herman Pilates Institute in 2007. In the same year, I completed Pilates rehabilitation training with Lizz Roman. I worked at Ms. Roman’s studio, Parkside Pilates in San Francisco, for over 9 years, where I continued regular study with her and developed my own thriving Pilates rehabilitation practice. I have a BA in Theater from the University of Michigan and am a former ballet and Argentine tango dancer. My goal for all clients is that they achieve strength, confidence, pain relief and improved quality of life through Pilates. I help clients focus on the journey of healing and never imagine a limit which cannot be exceeded.
I believe everyone has within themselves the ability to change their lives for the better. — Ann Beck
